Do you know who killed 34 year old Daniel L. McDaniel? In the spring of 1986, the life of 34-year-old Daniel L. McDaniel, a Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Portland, Oregon. On the afternoon of May 28th, a passing motorist driving in the 600 block of NW 14th Avenue noticed a person lying on the sidewalk. Alarmed by the sight of blood near the body, the driver quickly sought help from a nearby business, which then called 911.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find Daniel McDaniel deceased.
The Portland Police were notified, and homicide detectives began their investigation. An autopsy would later reveal that McDaniel had died from a gunshot wound. He left behind a wife and three children.
As detectives delved into the case, a name emerged from the shadows of the investigation: Federico Vicente Cordova. Known as “Chico,” Cordova was 32 years old at the time of the homicide. However, any secrets he may have held about that day have been taken to the grave, as Cordova is now deceased. The investigation did not end with him. Detectives believe that Cordova's girlfriend at the time, a woman known only as “Lee Ann,” may hold valuable information that could shed light on the events leading to McDaniel’s death.
In 1986, “Lee Ann” was described as a white female between 30 and 35 years old, standing at 5’5” and weighing 150 pounds, with blonde hair that reached the middle of her back. Despite the passage of time, the Portland Police Bureau's Cold Case Homicide Unit continues to seek information about her whereabouts and identity. They also remain interested in speaking with anyone who knew “Chico” at the time of the murder. The case of Daniel McDaniel's death remains an open investigation, a cold case still awaiting the final piece of the puzzle that might bring closure to his family.
