In the early morning hours of June 6, 1991, a call came in to police about an intoxicated man on the Burnside Bridge in Portland, Oregon. Responding officers found 38-year-old Beryl Leroy Haynes, a Caucasian male, staggering and appearing intoxicated. In an effort to prevent him from injuring himself, they asked him to sit on the sidewalk. It was then that the officers noticed blood on his clothing, prompting an immediate call for paramedics.
