Who killed 25 year old Cassie Stevens in 1998? In the early morning hours of July 14, 1998, a man searching for cans and bottles along a path in Portland's Powers Marine Park, near SW Macadam Ave, made a grim discovery. A trail of blood on the path led him to the discarded body of a Caucasian female, later identified as 35-year-old Cassie Nadeen Stevens. The man immediately alerted the police, who responded to the scene at approximately 6:30 a.m.
and confirmed the woman was deceased.
An autopsy later revealed that Cassie Stevens had died from gunshot wounds. Using fingerprints, detectives were able to positively identify her. Investigators learned that Stevens was originally from the Seattle area and had recently come to Portland's Old Town. According to her family, she struggled with a crack cocaine addiction and was trying to support her habit. The last time anyone reported seeing Cassie alive was between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on the day her body was found in the Old Town area.
To date, the murder of Cassie Stevens remains unsolved, and no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with her death. Her case is now considered a cold case. Investigators have appealed to the public for any information regarding someone who might have talked about "dumping" a body around that time, or who had unexplained blood on their person, clothing, or vehicle. They are also seeking information from anyone who might have knowledge about the death of a prostitute or thief in that area at the time. A cash reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
