Marco Young was a 23-year-old African-American man from Tulsa, Oklahoma, whose life ended in a burst of violence on the evening of December 23, 2007. That night, Marco and his cousin drove to a small house in west Tulsa, later identified in public records as a residence on West 56th Place, intending
to pick up a friend. According to the surviving cousin's account to police, when they arrived a person they did not know came out of the house and suddenly opened fire on their vehicle, striking both men. Despite being wounded in the side, the cousin managed to get behind the wheel, pull away from the scene, and drive toward help with Marco gravely injured beside him. Other descriptions of the attack mention at least two assailants in dark hooded clothing at or near the home, underscoring how chaotic and confusing those brief seconds of gunfire were for the people caught in the middle of it.
Marco's cousin succeeded in getting them to OSU Medical Center, but the damage had already been done.
