On March 21, 2008, 22-year-old Hispanic male Jairo Chaves, was killed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His life ended not in a hospital or at home but out in an open area, where his body was discovered in a field bearing clear signs of physical trauma. The condition in which he was found left little doubt for responding officers that this was no accident or natural death; it was immediately treated as a homicide, a deliberate act of violence that abruptly cut short a young man's future.
