On a summer night in Oklahoma City, the life of 25-year-old Caucasian female Venasa Swaissi was tragically cut short. On July 31, 2008, Swaissi, who worked as an exotic dancer, was killed in a violent encounter that would later be determined to be a homicide.
The investigation into her death led police to an 18-year-old suspect named Nicco Barnett. Authorities believed Barnett was responsible for not only Swaissi's death but also a robbery connected to the incident.
He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of first-degree murder and robbery.
In the initial stages of the investigation, law enforcement officials also considered a possible link between Swaissi's murder and another homicide that occurred on the same night. However, further investigation cleared Barnett of any involvement in the second killing, and the focus of the prosecution remained on his alleged role in the death of Venasa Swaissi.
