On October 17, 2008, Ebony Howeth, a 33-year-old African-American woman from Oklahoma City, pulled into the Petro Truck Stop off the interstate in northeast Oklahoma City, a busy hub for long-haul truckers and travelers on the edge of town. Sometime that day, what began as an argument in the truck stop parking lot between Ebony and a man named Mark Anthony Sanders drew the attention of people nearby.
