On November 13, 2012, Janet Kay Hume, a 77-year-old woman, was found dead in her Oklahoma City home following an intense standoff between police and her son, Gerald David Hume. Concerned relatives contacted the police after they had not heard from Janet for several days. Officers attempted multiple welfare checks at her home on South Bryant Avenue, but Gerald repeatedly refused them entry, offering various excuses.
