On November 16, 1973, Donald Grogan, aged 43, was killed inside his home at 922 Noble Street in Toledo, Ohio. Grogan was with his 14-year-old daughter, Sue, when a male suspect entered the residence through the rear door. The intruder, armed and intent on finding something specific, repeatedly demanded to know, "Where's the man?" He eventually located Donald in his bedroom and then questioned him about the location of a "brown safe."
The suspect forced Donald to help him bind Sue’s hands and feet before forcing him to search the house.
As Sue remained bound in the kitchen, she heard sounds of a struggle coming from the front bedroom. She heard Donald shout twice, followed by two loud noises that sounded like pounding. The suspect walked past Sue after the commotion, telling her that Donald had tried to attack him, adding, "He shouldn't have done it." The suspect fled the scene through the rear door, leaving Donald fatally injured. Donald died from gunshot wounds before any assistance could arrive.
The Toledo Police Department has been handling the investigation, but despite efforts to find leads, the case remains unsolved. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has featured Grogan's case on their cold case platform, soliciting tips from the public in hopes of bringing closure to the family. To date, no suspects have been arrested, and the case remains open, awaiting new information that might lead to a breakthrough. Authorities continue to seek any leads that could help solve this tragic incident.
