On July 30, 1980, General Townsend was tragically murdered in Columbus, Ohio. At 40 years old, Townsend was found lying next to his car on Livingston Avenue with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head. Columbus police arrived to find him already deceased at the scene. Despite the initial investigation, Townsend's case has remained unsolved, leaving his family and community without closure.
