On June 15, 2008, 20-year-old Darnell Smith was shot and killed in San Diego, California, while walking to his aunt's house in the Emerald Hills neighborhood. The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. after Smith parked his car in the 700 block of Pyramid Street. While walking with several relatives, an unknown suspect stepped out of a vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the group. Tragically, Smith was struck and died at the scene.
Witnesses described the suspect's vehicle as a newer black Ford Escape or a similar SUV with tinted windows. Despite efforts by law enforcement and a reward offer of $3,500 for information, the case remains unsolved. Darnell Smith was a student at San Diego Mesa College, working toward a degree in business administration, and was employed by Cox Communications.
Authorities continue to seek information about the murder, encouraging anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward to help bring justice to Smith’s family.
