On October 30, 1987, Melinda Newcomb, along with David Smelser and Donnie Marker, was brutally murdered at an isolated cabin located on Consolidated Road in Eaton, Ohio. The three victims were each shot in the head, and their bodies were discovered three days later on November 2. The cabin, a 19th-century structure, was isolated, sitting more than 200 yards from the nearest road, which made it difficult for anyone to hear or see what transpired on the night of the murders.
