Iesha Williams, a 24-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on January 23, 2016, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was fatally shot while driving on Reading Road in Bond Hill, an incident that authorities later described as a road rage shooting. Williams was struck by gunfire on January 14, 2016, causing her vehicle to crash into the back of a Metro bus.
She was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries nine days later.
Investigators determined that Williams was not the intended target of the shooting. Instead, her passenger, who fled the scene, was believed to have been the primary focus of the attack. Witnesses reported that Williams' vehicle was fired upon multiple times—between six and nine shots—by at least one individual in a gray car traveling in the same direction. Police had already been responding to reports of gunfire in the area when they discovered Williams inside her vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Three years after the incident, on March 20, 2019, Cincinnati police arrested two suspects in connection with Williams' murder. Mario Gibson, 36, and Akyame Daniels, 26, were charged with murder, aggravated murder, and felonious assault. Authorities alleged that both men brandished firearms before opening fire on Williams' vehicle. Gibson was accused of causing Williams' death with prior calculation and design, while Daniels was charged with attempting to cause her death. Both suspects also faced additional charges related to their alleged attempt to harm another individual, Quentin Cooper, who was inside the vehicle with Williams at the time of the shooting.
Williams was a mother of three young sons. Her neighbors and family members described her as a kind and caring individual, someone who was deeply loved by those around her. The arrests of Gibson and Daniels brought some measure of closure to her family, though the tragic loss of the young mother remained a painful memory for those who knew her. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death continued, with authorities urging anyone with further information to come forward.
