On April 23, 1993, 77-year-old Wilma DePalma was found dead in her home at 2614 Clybourne Road in Columbus, Ohio. Family members discovered her body and contacted authorities at around 3:09 a.m. Signs of a struggle were present at the scene, and there was visible blood, indicating that a violent encounter had occurred. The Franklin County Coroner's Office determined that DePalma died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.
