On September 4, 2008, Giovanni Lechado, aged 28, was shot while sitting in a car at the intersection of 18th and Bryant Streets in San Francisco's Mission District. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that morning. No arrests were made following the shooting. In response to the incident, Police Chief Heather Fong pledged to increase police patrols in both the Mission and Ingleside neighborhoods to address growing concerns about violence in these
areas. The case remains unsolved.
