On November 19, 2001, 82-year-old Dorothy Rejiester was found dead in her home on Stanley Court in Toledo, Ohio, in what was determined to be a homicide. Her son and daughter-in-law, who hadn’t been able to reach her, visited her residence two days later and discovered her body. The investigation revealed that her home had been burglarized, and among the items taken were a television and a recently issued credit card. The coroner concluded that her death was caused by asphyxiation.
The case remained cold until 2022, when Robert Flanigan, who had been imprisoned for unrelated charges, was indicted on aggravated murder and burglary charges linked to Rejiester’s death. Investigators connected him to the crime through the stolen credit card found in his possession. However, due to prior issues with evidence handling, some charges were dismissed initially, adding complexity to the ongoing investigation. Despite these challenges, the case remains open with continuing efforts from Ohio authorities to achieve closure for Rejiester’s family.
