Brandon Evans, a 20-year-old originally from San Diego, was killed on November 29, 2008, during an outing to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Evans had recently moved to San Francisco to pursue his interest in music and education, and was attending a social gathering at the horseshoe pits near the Conservatory of Flowers. Approximately 100 people were gathered at the park, enjoying live music and drinking, when shots were fired, and Evans was struck by a long-range bullet. He died while being transported to the hospital.
Local residents had expressed concerns about gatherings at the park, describing them as unsafe due to frequent disturbances by groups of young people. Despite these concerns, no police presence was there to prevent the escalation, and no arrests have been made following Evans' death. The shooting added to the alarming number of unsolved homicides in San Francisco at that time. Community members, including Evans' family and friends, have repeatedly called for justice, urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Unfortunately, as with many other similar cases, the lack of witnesses or actionable evidence has made it challenging for authorities to make progress on the investigation.
