On December 9, 2006, Curtis Francis, aged 34, and his partner Jennifer Burgette were found murdered in their home on Hopper Road in Piketon, Ohio. The couple was shot while they were asleep in their bed. Their tragic deaths have become known as the "Hopper Road double murder." The Pike County Sheriff's Office initially led the investigation, following multiple leads, but the case remains unsolved to this day.
Authorities believe more than one person was involved in the killings, and it is suggested that the perpetrator may have known Curtis and Jennifer. The investigation revealed that Curtis had recently undergone shoulder replacement surgery and was taking Percocet, which led investigators to believe that the crime may have been linked to his medication. Despite potential leads, including a well where two firearms believed to be linked to the crime were discovered, the evidence proved challenging to retrieve and the case went cold.
Over the years, the case has been reviewed by both local detectives and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in hopes of solving it. Family members, including Curtis's mother, continue to seek justice and closure. The Pike County Sheriff has expressed hope that renewed efforts may eventually solve the case and bring peace to the victims' families.
