On April 7, 2008, Tiana Goins, an 18-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting on Cordell Avenue, in the South Linden neighborhood of Columbus. The incident occurred around 10:13 p.m., when Tiana was sitting on the hood of a parked car along with her cousin, boyfriend, and another friend. The group was enjoying one of the first warm spring evenings with over a dozen friends gathered in the area when a car, described as a white or tan Caprice, approached, and shots were fired into the crowd. Tiana was struck and killed instantly by the gunfire.
Witnesses reported that there was no altercation or exchange of words before the shots were fired. It remains unclear whether the shooting was related to an earlier argument between teenagers on a COTA bus, which Tiana was reportedly on before the shooting. The Columbus Police Department, along with the homicide unit, continues to investigate the incident, but as of now, the shooter or shooters have not been apprehended, and the case remains unsolved.
Tiana Goins was described as someone with aspirations of becoming a nurse, and she had recently graduated early from Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School. She was about to start a new job and was taking steps towards her future when her life was abruptly cut short.
