On April 26, 2009, 31-year-old Cornelius Johnson was shot and killed in Emerald Hills Park in San Diego, California. The incident occurred around 4:05 p.m. when police were called to the park near the basketball courts after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Johnson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.
Initial investigations revealed that Johnson had left his nearby home to play basketball when the shooting occurred. Witnesses reported seeing three suspects, described as Black males, fleeing the scene in a light-colored, late-model vehicle, which was last seen heading eastbound on Tooley Street. The motive for the shooting remained unclear, and authorities encouraged anyone with information to come forward to help solve the case.
