On September 12, 2009, Sedric Gadson, 28, was shot multiple times and killed behind an address on 10th Street in Oakland, California. The investigation into Gadson's murder suggested links to other violent incidents occurring in Oakland and Richmond around the same period. Police connected .40 caliber shell casings found at the scene to several other homicides, indicating the possibility of a crime spree carried out by members of a local gang.
