Elray Jones Jr., a 19-year-old from Oakland, was shot and killed on November 18, 2009, in West Oakland. The incident took place near the corner of 14th and Peralta Streets shortly after 9 p.m. The Oakland Police Department responded to the scene and began an investigation into the fatal shooting. This tragedy was part of ongoing violence that plagued parts of West Oakland during that time, an area that was often the site of shootings linked to various conflicts and crime issues.
