Delrec Dwayne Avant, a 22-year-old from Momence, Illinois, was tragically shot and killed in Columbus, Ohio, on June 20, 2014. Avant and his friend, Dorcas Law, were traveling in a car on Roche Drive in the early morning hours when gunfire struck them both, leading to their vehicle crashing into nearby parked cars and a fire hydrant. Avant sustained critical injuries from gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Law was also gravely injured and died later that evening at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
The Columbus Police initiated an investigation but, as of now, have not identified any suspects or established a clear motive for the attack. The case remains unsolved, leaving Avant's family and the community seeking justice. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office and Columbus Police Department continue to appeal to the public for any information that might shed light on the circumstances surrounding Avant’s death, encouraging anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward to assist in bringing closure to his loved ones.
