A man is found shot on a sidewalk On the night of March 21, 2015, 28-year-old Black male Derek Lamont Jones was fatally shot in North College Hill, Ohio. At approximately 11:16 p.m., Jones was found unresponsive on the sidewalk near the 6700 block of Savannah Avenue, close to "Good Brotha's" Bar. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the back of the head. Emergency responders transported him to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Earlier that evening, Jones had arrived at the bar with friends. Shortly after, he stepped outside to retrieve his cell phone from the car. Surveillance footage captured him walking south on Savannah Avenue, passing an unidentified individual who then turned around and followed him. Moments later, gunshots were heard, and Jones was found lying on the sidewalk.
Jones was a father of four and aspired to own his own business. His mother, Yvonne Crear, described him as a good father with a good head on his shoulders. She has expressed deep anguish over the lack of answers surrounding her son's death and urges anyone with information to come forward.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Black male Derek Lamont Jones. The case remains unsolved, and authorities continue to seek information from the public.
