On the late evening of Tuesday, May 28, 2019, sheriff's deputies were summoned to a residential neighborhood in Lancaster following reports of severe domestic unrest. Emergency dispatchers received an urgent call shortly before 10:30 p.m. reporting a family disturbance involving an individual who was possibly suffering from a mental health crisis inside a home situated along the 44600 block of Gillan Avenue.

When deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff's Station arrived at the property around 10:25 p.m., they entered the residence to assess the situation and discovered twenty-eight-year-old David Solomon Crockett, a Black man, completely unresponsive. First responders evaluated Crockett immediately upon arrival, but he had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau were summoned to the residence to take over the investigation and examine the circumstances of the fatal confrontation. Through preliminary inquiries and witness statements gathered inside the residence, investigators learned that a physical fight had broken out between Crockett and a family member immediately prior to the deputies' arrival. Detectives brought in other members of the household who were present at the residence for questioning in an effort to reconstruct the sequence of events that led up to the lethal altercation.

The residential street on Gillan Avenue sits within a sprawling suburban development in east Lancaster, a high-desert city in northern Los Angeles County. The surrounding community, situated in the Antelope Valley, has contended with intermittent violent crime and tragic domestic disturbances across recent years. Despite the presence of multiple family members at the residence during the incident, investigators did not make an immediate arrest, and specific details regarding the exact mechanism of death were withheld from the public while the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner conducted postmortem examinations.

The case remains an open and unresolved homicide investigation under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau. No formal charges or convictions have been recorded in connection with Crockett's death. Investigators have continuously asked anyone who may possess additional context or information about the incident on Gillan Avenue to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
