Do you know who murdered Rayburn Simms? On May 21, 2005, Rayburn Antonio Demarcus Simms, aged 30, was fatally shot in Durham, North Carolina. Early that morning, police responded to a single-car accident near the Oaks at Northgate Apartments on Broad Street. Simms, who was driving a green 2001 Chrysler Sebring, had been shot in the side, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash. Investigators believe the shooting took place on Leon Street, approximately two blocks from where the car was found.
The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes, and Simms succumbed to his injuries shortly after being discovered.
Despite ongoing efforts to solve the case, Simms’ murder remains unsolved. His mother, Joslin Simms, has been vocal about her grief and frustration over the lack of answers, becoming an advocate for anti-violence initiatives in Durham. Community vigils and public awareness campaigns have been held in honor of Simms and other victims of violence in the city, but no arrests have been made in connection to his death.
