On May 21, 2005, Rayburn Antonio Demarcus Simms, aged 30, was fatally shot in Durham, North Carolina. Early that morning, police responded to a single-car accident near the Oaks at Northgate Apartments on Broad Street. Simms, who was driving a green 2001 Chrysler Sebring, had been shot in the side, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash.
