Ondrea Japonica Stevenson, a 19-year-old pregnant woman, was tragically shot and killed on December 4, 2013, in west Charlotte, North Carolina. She was found in an apartment at the Little Rock Apartments, where she had been staying after an argument with her relatives left her homeless. According to reports, Stevenson was sleeping on the couch when gunfire erupted outside the apartment.
Her roommates believe that she was not the intended target, and that the shots were likely meant for someone else.
The investigation into Stevenson's murder continued for several years. In 2019, Carlos Delonte Knox and Antonio Xavier Jennings were both arrested and charged with her murder and the murder of her unborn child. Knox, who had a prior criminal record, was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, while Jennings was arrested in connection with the same crime.
This case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the tragedy of unintended violence and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to seek justice for Stevenson and her unborn child. Despite the arrests, the investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather more details.
