In the summer of 2026, the life of 19-year-old Patrick Shane Faircloth of Chadbourn, North Carolina, was tragically cut short. On Monday, June 22, 2026, Faircloth was fatally shot in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He was not the only victim of this violent act; 15-year-old Mariah Thompson of Whiteville was also killed in the shooting. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Vance and West Eleventh streets in what has been described as a double shooting.

At the time of the fatal shooting, Faircloth and Thompson were passengers in a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Isaiah Cooper, also of Whiteville. Cooper was unharmed during the incident. A Roanoke Rapids police officer was reportedly in the area when the shooting took place and saw Cooper's vehicle leaving the scene. The officer stopped the vehicle a short distance away. Cooper was detained for questioning and was later released. The Roanoke Rapids Police Department has stated that the investigation is ongoing and that they are working with local and state agencies to identify and capture those responsible for the deaths of the two teenagers. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact them or Halifax County Crime Stoppers.

Patrick Shane Faircloth, known as Shane, was born on May 31, 2007. He was a 2025 graduate of Whiteville High School and was known within the local community for his interest in custom trucks. In the wake of his death, members of the truck community planned a "Final Ride" memorial service in his honor, with his own truck to be displayed at the event. His family, including his mother, Terry Lynn Jernigan, and his father, Patrick Faircloth, were left seeking answers in the face of their tragic loss. The case remains an active investigation as authorities continue to pursue multiple leads to bring justice for Patrick Shane Faircloth and Mariah Thompson.
