On the evening of July 3, 2026, Clayton Manning, a 49-year-old Black man, was on a sidewalk in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles when his life was cut short in a sudden act of violence. At approximately 7:45 p.m., near the intersection of 59th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, a vehicle carrying two or three male suspects approached and multiple gunshots were fired. Manning was struck by several bullets and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office would later confirm that the cause of his death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner was a homicide.
The brazen attack also claimed the life of another man, 60-year-old Jerome Cunningham. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A third individual, a 54-year-old man, was also wounded in the drive-by shooting but survived and was hospitalized in stable condition. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, disappearing into the Los Angeles night before law enforcement could arrive. Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle speed away, but early reports did not include a detailed description of the car or the suspects.
In the days that followed, the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide. Detectives canvassed the area for evidence and sought information from the public, but the perpetrators remained at large. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the murders of Clayton Manning and Jerome Cunningham. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no charges have been filed.
