On July 18, 2016, 21-year-old Kevin David Powell was shot and killed in Durham, North Carolina, near the 1100 block of Linwood Avenue. The incident was part of a wave of violence that year, leading to heightened community concern. Two suspects, Malik Shequan Boyce and Larry Lee James, were later charged in connection with Powell’s death.
