On the evening of April 18, 2026, a dispute that began at an Oakland First Fridays event escalated into a tragic series of events, claiming the life of 24-year-old Isaanae Morton. The violence unfolded around 8:15 p.m. in East Oakland, near the corner of Foothill Boulevard and 64th Avenue.
The initial confrontation involved 19-year-old Davione Sharp, who was accompanied by Morton.
Authorities state that Sharp approached a group of individuals, including 31-year-old Derrick Hubbard, in the 6400 block of Foothill Boulevard. An altercation ensued, during which Sharp allegedly drew a firearm and shot Hubbard multiple times. Hubbard succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Following the shooting, Sharp and Morton fled the area on foot.
What followed was an act of retaliation by associates of Hubbard. Shortly after the first shooting, a BMW sedan, allegedly driven by 42-year-old Michael Baxter, pursued Sharp and Morton. Surveillance footage captured 32-year-old Reginald Jackson exiting the passenger side of the vehicle and chasing Morton. Jackson is accused of shooting Morton multiple times before getting back into the car and fleeing. Isaanae Morton was found on the steps of the Frick United Academy of Language and was pronounced dead at the scene. Sharp was also struck by gunfire during this second shooting but survived his injuries.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, authorities launched an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of the individuals involved. Davione Sharp and Reginald Jackson have both been charged with murder. Michael Baxter faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact. While the conflict is known to have originated at the First Fridays event, the specific nature of the dispute that led to the deadly violence has not been disclosed by investigators. The homicides were the 15th and 16th investigated by Oakland police in 2026.
