In the quiet, early morning hours of April 24, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on the 3200 block of Millbury Avenue in a Baldwin Park neighborhood. When police and paramedics arrived around 5 a.m., they discovered a tragic scene with three adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a second man was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The man transported to the hospital was 60-year-old Thaun Chung, an Asian male who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds shortly after his arrival. One of the victims at the scene was identified as his 56-year-old wife, Bich Lu, who died from a gunshot wound to the head. The third individual, found deceased at the scene with a gunshot wound to the head, was later identified as 71-year-old Vien Chi Lu. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau took over the investigation into the triple shooting.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities began to piece together the tragic events of that morning. Neighbors reported hearing the gunshots but did not witness the incident. The Los Angeles County medical examiner's office ruled the deaths of Thaun Chung and Bich Lu as homicides. The investigation led detectives to believe the incident was a double-murder-suicide.
Authorities concluded that Vien Chi Lu was the suspect in the killings. After shooting and killing Thaun Chung and Bich Lu, Vien Chi Lu then took his own life. A firearm was recovered at the scene. While the investigation was in its early stages, officials noted they were not actively searching for any other suspects, and rumors among neighbors suggested the shooter was a relative of the married couple. The devastating act of violence left the two college-aged children of Thaun Chung and Bich Lu orphaned.
