A simmering dispute at a family party in Crete, Illinois, erupted into violence in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 29, 2026, leaving 20-year-old David Velazquez of Hammond, Indiana, dead and two others critically injured. The gathering, an adult birthday party, was being held at a residence on the 27000 block of South State Line Road. At approximately 1:00 a.m., multiple 911 calls reported a large fight and possible shooting at the location.
