In what has been determined to be a murder-suicide, 41-year-old Dalana Charlot was killed on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Carencro, Louisiana. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office identified her estranged boyfriend, 33-year-old Raylon Wiltz, as the perpetrator.
Deputies responded to a shooting at a residence on Maggie Lane late in the evening. Upon arrival, they discovered both Charlot and Wiltz in the driveway with gunshot wounds. Charlot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wiltz was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators concluded that Wiltz shot Charlot before turning the gun on himself.
Further investigation revealed a history of domestic issues between the couple. Court records show that on January 30, Charlot had been granted a restraining order against Wiltz, the same day he was arrested for simple battery. In her request for the order, Charlot alleged that Wiltz had threatened her with a knife, had a history of mental illness, and had exhibited suicidal behavior. However, the restraining order was dismissed in February when Charlot did not appear for a court hearing.
Dalana Charlot was a mother of two who was known for her warm and caring nature. She had a gift for bringing people together and enjoyed organizing family gatherings. Her family and friends remember her as a devoted and wonderful mother whose children were the center of her world. The investigation into the deaths of Charlot and Wiltz is now closed.
