In an event described by authorities as isolated and domestic in nature, Maryann C. Buss-Kincaid, a 76-year-old female, was found deceased in her Oak Lawn, Illinois, home on Sunday, April 5, 2026. A caretaker discovered her unresponsive and alerted the police, who arrived at the residence in the 9400 block of South 53rd Court for a well-being check at approximately 1:10 p.m.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed that Buss-Kincaid's death was a homicide, resulting from
multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Following the discovery, Oak Lawn police initiated an investigation and have since identified a person of interest. It has been reported that a person of interest is in custody in connection with the case.
A longtime resident of Oak Lawn, Buss-Kincaid was a business owner for over five decades and worked as a dedicated mortuary beautician for numerous funeral homes on Chicago's South Side. She was remembered by those she served for the meticulous care she provided. Her obituary describes her as having a "larger-than-life personality" and a "heart of gold." She is survived by her daughter, grandchildren, and three sisters.
