In the small community of Hungry Horse, Montana, a confrontation on the evening of February 28, 2026, ended in the death of 30-year-old David Bollman, a White male resident of Flathead County. The incident, which unfolded on Main Street, prompted multiple calls to dispatch at approximately 7:13 p.m. reporting a shooting.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered Bollman deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The individual identified as the shooter at the scene was 25-year-old Dylan Austin Olson of Hungry Horse. Olson was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Flathead County Detention Center on March 1, facing a felony charge of deliberate homicide.
According to court documents, Olson claimed he acted in self-defense, believing Bollman was coming to his property to confront him.
He stated to investigators and witnesses that he retrieved a shotgun from a vehicle. A witness who drove Bollman to the location told law enforcement that Bollman's demeanor was "excited, happy, and not looking for a fight," and that no words were exchanged before Olson allegedly shot him as he was walking toward him.
Olson is being held on a $500,000 bond, and his arraignment is scheduled for May 7 in Flathead County District Court. The Flathead County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting.
