In a quiet suburban neighborhood in Rancho Cordova, California, the life of 11-year-old Sydney Peralta Vallerga was tragically cut short on January 27, 2026. On that Tuesday morning, law enforcement responded to a chilling 911 call from a man who identified himself as the shooter and claimed to have set up booby traps within his home. This call followed an earlier report of gunshots in the area, prompting a significant police presence, including a SWAT team, to descend upon the normally
peaceful Mill Water Circle.
Upon their arrival, authorities established a perimeter and evacuated nearby homes as a precautionary measure. After attempts to make contact with anyone inside the residence were unsuccessful, a drone was deployed to assess the situation from a safe distance. The drone's surveillance revealed an unresponsive male subject inside, prompting officers to enter the home. Once inside, they made the grim discovery of four deceased individuals, all of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as Sydney, her 13-year-old brother Colton Drake Peralta Vallerga, and their 49-year-old mother, Lindsey Peralta Vallerga. The fourth deceased individual was identified as 58-year-old David Edward Vallerga Jr., the children's father.
