In the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the life of 48-year-old Corey Lamont Brown was tragically cut short in Ahoskie, North Carolina. A disagreement between Brown and another man escalated, resulting in Brown being fatally shot. The Ahoskie Police Department responded to a call at approximately 8:23 a.m. and discovered Brown deceased at a residence on West Rogers Street from an apparent gunshot wound.
On the scene, officers took 65-year-old Leandrew Vinson into
custody without incident. Following an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, Vinson was charged with first-degree murder. He was subsequently confined to the Hertford County Detention Center under no bond.
Vinson was scheduled for his first court appearance on Friday following the incident. The investigation suggested that the fatal shooting was the result of a heated argument between the two men. Corey Lamont Brown was the son of Fred Allen Brown, Sr. and Hellena Bynum Brown.
