A quiet evening at Cedar Creek Marina in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, turned tragic on Friday, January 31, 2026, ending in the deaths of three men, including 52-year-old Robert Brogdon. The incident began with reports of a man threatening people on the docks, prompting a police response to the marina on Old Hickory Lake.
As officers from the Mount Juliet Police Department were searching for the individual, the sound of gunfire pierced the night air.
They discovered Robert Brogdon with a gunshot wound and moved him to a secure location to administer medical aid before he was transported to a local hospital. Sadly, Brogdon later succumbed to his injuries.
The situation escalated as police believed the armed suspect, identified as 45-year-old Gary Haley Jr., was barricaded on a boat at the end of a dock. The department's Special Response Team was called to the scene. During a prolonged standoff, Haley allegedly fired at officers, leading them to return fire. Haley was subsequently found deceased.
In the course of their investigation at the marina, authorities made another grim discovery, finding 52-year-old Matthew Jones deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation into the interconnected events of that fatal night, including the initial shootings and the officer-involved shooting of the suspect.
