In what authorities are describing as an attempted murder-suicide, 47-year-old Sharif Owens of Harper Woods died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on January 9, 2026. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours on Hunt Club Drive following a birthday celebration for Owens.
Police believe that Owens and his 34-year-old dating partner, a resident of Detroit, were involved in an altercation after returning from the celebration.
During the confrontation, Owens stabbed his partner at least once in the neck. Following the stabbing, Owens reportedly turned the firearm on himself, taking his own life.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Owens deceased. His partner was found alive and transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The investigation into the violent domestic dispute is ongoing, based on evidence collected and statements from eyewitnesses.
