Bryson Andrew May, a 19-year-old male from Frazee, Minnesota, was shot during the early-morning hours of Saturday, December 20, 2025, after violence erupted inside a home on West Ash Avenue. Deputies were dispatched around 2:38 a.m. on a report of a disturbance; while they were still on the way, additional reports came in that gunfire had erupted and someone had been hit. When law enforcement arrived, May was found badly wounded and rushed to a hospital in the Detroit Lakes area, but he did not survive his injuries.
Investigators said the people responsible fled almost immediately in a black SUV, disappearing into the dark with only a brief head start. Within a short time, an Otter Tail County deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description north of Perham and stopped it, taking the occupants into custody. Early reporting indicated four people were detained as the investigation unfolded, but authorities later focused on two primary suspects who remained held while the case moved toward formal charging decisions.
In the days that followed, prosecutors filed a second-degree murder charge against Arthur Campbell, 21, in connection with May’s death. Court records described the incident as a forced entry tied to theft, alleging Campbell and a juvenile pushed into the home in the early hours of Dec. 20 to take items, and that May was shot multiple times during the encounter. A witness told police she recognized Campbell, and authorities said he left in the SUV with others before the traffic stop in Otter Tail County ended the flight. A judge set conditional bail at $2 million, and a next court date was scheduled for February 9 in Becker County.
A 16-year-old was also arrested, held in juvenile detention, and publicly identified only by age because juvenile records are sealed; reporting indicated it was not yet clear whether the case would be handled entirely in juvenile court or sought for transfer to adult court.
