In a tragic incident on a Sunday afternoon in Oak Park, Illinois, 26-year-old Anthony Brooks lost his life after being shot in the head. The shooting occurred on November 2, 2025, at a residence on South Ridgeland Avenue where he lived with his younger brother.
Authorities were alerted to the situation around 1:47 p.m. by a 911 caller who reported that a shooting had taken place following an altercation between the two brothers. The caller also informed police that they had advised the younger brother, 23-year-old Miles Brooks, to unload the weapon and exit the home unarmed, which he did. When Oak Park police officers arrived at the scene, they found Miles outside the residence and took him into custody without any trouble.
Upon entering the shared home, officers discovered Anthony Brooks unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head. Paramedics from the Oak Park Fire Department were called to the scene, but Anthony was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
Following the incident, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved a charge of first-degree murder against Miles Brooks. He is currently being held pending a detention hearing. The Oak Park Police Department, with assistance from the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services, is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting. This was reported to be the second fatal shooting in Oak Park that year.
