Baseem “Seyven” Baker, 17, male, was discovered unresponsive on the bedroom floor of his family’s apartment on the 100 block of Old York Road in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township around 5 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025. An autopsy the next day determined he died from a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
He had spent the weekend at home with a 15-year-old girl, Precious Hamilton, who had been staying with the family since Friday night.
Over that weekend, detectives later learned, Hamilton produced a small handgun, showing that it was loaded; a cousin recounted seeing it, and investigators recovered images and video from Baker’s iPad of Hamilton holding the weapon and “dry firing” it out of the 11th-floor bedroom window. On Monday afternoon, Baker’s mother left the two teens at about 2:40 p.m. to run errands; when she returned around 4:30 p.m., the apartment door was unlocked and she found her son on the bedroom floor. Surveillance footage showed Hamilton leaving the building alone just before 3:30 p.m.
In interviews with detectives, Hamilton said the shooting was an accident that happened as she “produced the firearm in a rapid fashion” while gathering her belongings, and that she had stolen the revolver roughly two months earlier. Photos on Baker’s iPad reinforced that she had handled the gun before; the weapon itself had not yet been recovered, authorities said. After the shot, Hamilton did not call 911 but left the apartment and was seen on video departing the building; she later told police she panicked.
Hamilton was arrested and charged as an adult with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a minor, and carrying a firearm without a license. Officials said she would be housed at the Montgomery County Youth Center pending arraignment, with a preliminary hearing to be scheduled. The investigation is being led jointly by Abington Township Police and Montgomery County Detectives.
