In the autumn of 2025, a tragic event unfolded in Jefferson City, Missouri, leading to the death of 31-year-old Sofie Mulcahey. On October 7th, she and another woman, 39-year-old Shawna Davis, were shot while inside a vehicle in the 1100 block of Cordell Avenue. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a wooded area. Both women were critically injured and transported to University Hospital in Columbia, where they ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
The incident prompted an investigation
that quickly led to a suspect. Michael Davis, 40, of Jefferson City, was identified and apprehended. He was the husband of the other victim, Shawna Davis. Prosecutors allege that Michael Davis fired more than 30 shots into the car carrying his wife and Sofie Mulcahey.
Following the deaths of both women, Cole County Prosecuting Attorney Locke Thompson upgraded the charges against Michael Davis to two counts of first-degree murder, indicating a belief that the act was premeditated. Davis was indicted on these charges and is expected to be arraigned. In court, Michael Davis entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of killing his wife and her friend.
