Chris Newell, 35, a man from Laurel, Mississippi, was killed during gunfire that erupted on the campus of Heidelberg High School on the night of October 10, 2025, just after the school’s homecoming football game. Authorities said two people were shot and killed that night—Newell and 28-year-old Mikeia McCray—while a third victim later died from injuries in the days that followed.
