Ronny Hammonds, 57, male, White/Caucasian, was killed in Mabank, Texas, on October 17, 2025. He was one of three people fatally shot in the Cedar Creek Cove subdivision during the early morning hours, an attack that also left two others wounded. Authorities and memorial listings identified the victims as Hammonds, Kimberly Simpson, and Connie Patrick, with the shootings reported to have begun around 2:30 a.m.
Investigators named the suspect as 29-year-old Christopher Kyle Reid Jr.
of Hubbard. After the shootings, Reid fled the scene in a maroon Dodge Caravan, drove to Ennis, and crashed through the entrance of a Buc-ee’s store. Inside, he shot himself and was transported in critical condition, while a pedestrian struck during the crash sustained non–life-threatening injuries. As of the most recent reports, the case remained under investigation, and no additional suspects had been announced.
News outlets reported the two wounded survivors as Henry Hopgood, 70, who was listed in critical condition, and Colton Reid, 24. Authorities had not publicly detailed the relationships among the suspect and the victims, and officials from Henderson County indicated they were working with state and local partners to piece together the sequence of events.
In the days that followed, the community prepared tributes for the three lives lost. A celebration of life for Hammonds, Simpson, and Patrick was announced at the First Baptist Church in Hubbard, reflecting the shock that spread beyond Mabank to surrounding towns as details emerged and investigators continued their work.
