On July 21, 2017, 14-year-old Martin Recio was shot and killed outside a Dion's restaurant near Gibson and University in Albuquerque. The attack, which also injured two of his friends, occurred during a drug deal gone wrong. Derreck Flocco, a 29-year-old man, was later charged with Recio's murder after evading authorities for over a year.
