A festive quinceañera celebration at Memorial Park in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, turned into a scene of violence and tragedy on the late evening of July 5, 2025. During the party, which had over 100 attendees, an altercation broke out, leading to a shooting that left 19-year-old Jared Pena-Salgado, a Hispanic male, dead and five other individuals wounded. The sounds of celebration were pierced by the sound of at least 10 gunshots, causing chaos as partygoers fled for safety.
Law enforcement responded to multiple reports of the shooting at approximately 11:19 p.m. and discovered several victims upon their arrival.
Despite life-saving efforts by officers and the Sedro-Woolley Fire Department, Jared Pena-Salgado succumbed to his injuries. The five other victims, ranging in age from 20 to 47, were transported to various hospitals for medical treatment. Two of the injured, a 47-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, were taken to Harborview Medical Center, while a 20-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man received care at local facilities.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators began processing a significant amount of evidence at the scene, including the recovery of two firearms. One suspect, identified as 22-year-old Edgar Alejandro Fuentes, Jr., was taken into custody and booked into the Skagit County Jail. However, prosecutors later decided not to file charges against him, citing the need for a more thorough investigation into the complex event. Consequently, Fuentes was released from custody. As of late July 2025, no other arrests had been made in connection with the fatal shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have encouraged anyone with information, photos, or videos of the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
