Taysha Brannon, a 33-year-old Black woman, was found unresponsive in the yard of a home on Bermuda Drive near Saint Pauls, North Carolina, on the afternoon of June 12, 2025. Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office were called at approximately 1:02 p.m. to 22 Bermuda Drive, where she was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly labeled the case a homicide and appealed to neighbors for surveillance footage as they worked to establish what happened in the moments before her
death. Multiple outlets later identified the incident as a fatal shooting.
Within days, detectives named a suspect and made an arrest. On June 18, 2025, authorities took 38-year-old Shane Trenier Cohen into custody in Warsaw, North Carolina, in connection with Brannon’s killing. Cohen—identified as Brannon’s ex-boyfriend—was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and was held without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center.
