Francisco Paul Flattes II, a 56-year-old male and Black/African American detention officer, was fatally shot on June 30, 2025, in Murphy, North Carolina, during an inmate medical escort. He was taken to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital’s orthopedics clinic in Murphy when a struggle broke out with the prisoner he was guarding.
